If you’ve made the decision to build your own chicken coop you’re an integral part of an evergrowing group of Americans that are saying “No” to economic downturns, and doing something positive for themselves, their family and their own nutrition.

Chicken house designs are for sale to almost any space and size you may need them to conform to. There are many different options available to choose from and you should look for the plans that offer the features you may want to successfully keep and increase your chickens.

  • Build a Safe Chicken Coop. You not only need to protect your chickens from hungry predators, but they must be able to survive the natural elements, such as rain, snow, and summer heat.
  • Build an Easy Maintenance Coop. Diseases and sickness can spell disaster to coop bound chickens. Cleaning your chicken coop should be as easy as possible so that you can do it quick and often.
  • Keeping Your Coop Warm and Bright. A properly built chicken coop is not only well ventilated, but warm in the cold winter months. There are a few simple tips to follow in order to keep your chickens warm at night or in the cold seasons.
  • What Kind of Climate Do You Live In? It’s important in colder climates that you insulate your coop to protect your birds from cold temperatures and freezing to death.
  • Let in Some Sunshine and Fresh air. It’s important that your chickens have sunshine. Do not keep your birds in a constant shaded area or they will suffer from lack of sunshine.

There should be no guesswork involved. The plans should tell you exactly what materials you need and how much. You have control on the quality of materials and I would suggest you don’t go cheap. So long as you are building it… make it last.

Once you find out how to create a chicken coop it really is only a matter of time before you get a steady supply of eggs from your birds. This is a great way to make sure that the eggs and chicken that you consume usually do not contain any harmful substances such as hormones, chemicals and the like.
